What can you do to help? The fact you are here means you have taken the first step towards preserving automotive history. As one man or woman, you CAN help. The following are ways that you can help the classic car / collector industry and help to promote automotive awareness:

* First and foremost, take care of your car. Treat your vehicle how you would want it to treat you if the roles were reversed.

* KNOW YOUR RIGHTS! You have the right to own whatever car you want. The government, local or federal, has no right to strong-arm you into getting rid of a vehicle that you posess. Understanding your rights, and knowing the legalities will save you money in potential fines and may even save your car from aggressive local salvage laws. To learn more about your rights, and ways that you can help prevent aggressive anti-car legislation, please visit the SEMA Action Network, http://www.SEAMSAN.com.

* JOIN A CLUB! There are others like you. If you own a vehicle, chances are, others own one just like yours. There are hundreds of thousands of groups on the internet, both local and on the national level that are comitted to providing support (technical and otherwise) and information for your vehicle.

* Does your family own a car that's been around for a while? Why are you so quick to get rid of it? Consider all of the memories you and your family have had in that car. Family road trips, your first date, going to the prom, that drag-race in the high school parking lot... or even taking home your child for the first time from the hospital. Imagine what it would be like to be able to pass that vehicle down to your next family member. Even if you don't feel the car is long distant road worthy, it might still make an excellent vehicle with which to go to Church in once a week, or to get groceries nearby. Consider keeping this car. It's not worth in money what it's worth to your family.

* Have you ever visited a junkyard and found a rare or exotic car that you just feel needs to be saved? Well, you CAN help. If possible, write down as much information as you can, and seek out local clubs for that car. A simple search in google will give you the opportunity to post this vehicle in a message board that caters to this car. You might just very well save the car, or at least save a good number of it's parts. These parts will in turn save other cars, or complete ones that are waiting to be finished.

* Do you still have your first car and are considering getting rid of it? Is it something kinda neat? How interesting would it be to still keep your first car, well into your advanced age? The one common theme I hear from people, time and time again is... "I wish I still had my first car". Like they say, you may have a fancy new Ferrari now, but your first was always special.
